Cool! Thanks for the information. I'd like to do a mix of theory and experiment, and yeah his ideas do look both crazy and amazing. I've done some biological experimental work up here at UMKC as well as theoretical work with lasers at the University of Arkansas.
So you're working with Kauffman? What is that like? I'm trying to figure out if I'm going into physics or something bio oriented in graduate studies but I'm starting to think math is where it's at because it's much more universal. (I'm interested in complexity)
Hi Kelly,
I am a student of electrical engineering and my favorite area of the degree is the applied math. One of my possible pathways is to go into a graduate program in mathematical modeling. Can you tell me how you ended up studying under such a fantastic professor?
Hi Kelly, thanks for joining NING. Don't you think it would be nice to upload a picture of you? It's more personal, isn't it?

I believe my unique insight into religion, mathematics, politics and science will be helpful to the discussion of Stuart's book.
About Me:
I'm a graduate student in Applied Mathematics at the University of Calgary under Stuart Kauffman and Larry Bates at the Institute for Biocomplexity and Informatics.
Harris/Decima ran an interesting survey May 26, 2008 asking about their religious beliefs.
From the paper:
- 72% claimed they believe in god, 23% said they do not, and 6% didn't offer an opinion either way
The linked pdf has other statistics, and is an interesting survey of Canadian belief structures and contrasts with recent polls in England and the US with regards to belief.
So, I had an interesting epiphany today. About 40 minutes ago, I had the urge to enjoy a can of coke that we had lying around the apartment after dc's family had left town. I went to the fridge, and I did not find any coke in it. I guess we simply drank all of the coke. Now, here's the epiphany though. DC apparently claims to have taken a can of coke from the fridge this mo… Continue
